Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado is scheduled for next year and Volkswagen is eager to create record at the event. For this event, the automaker is prepared an all-electric prototype whose teaser has been released. An interesting aspect of the prototype is that it is an all-wheel drive and uses electricity. It is according to Volkswagen’s plan to be a world leader in manufacturing of electric vehicle. This all-electric prototype is just a stepping stone to achieve the desired feat.
Dr Frank Welsch of Volkswagen said in a statement that electric racer will be comprised of innovative battery and drive technology. Pikes Peak will be extremely stressful and it will provide them with important feedback which will be used for future development. The changes will be reflected on their products and in their technologies. Volkswagen Motorsport is being developing the aforementioned prototype. Last time, the company attempted the Pikes Peak was in the year 1987. For that event they used twin-engine Golf that barely missed out on finishing the crossing line.
The race at Pikes Peak will be a new beginning for the company. It is the first time they are developing an all-electric race car. For Volkswagen Motorsport director Sven Smeets, this project is an important milestone with respect to motorsport direction. He added that the team is “electrified” about the project. Challengers at Pikes Peak will have to confront 12.4 miles distance that climbs from 4,700 feet to 14,000 feet. The event will be held on 24th June 2018.
