According to Toyota, Supra is one of the most exciting cars to be driving around but the company also claims that it is one of the fastest in the business. Toyota Supra is able to lap around Nurburgring in just 7:40 seconds, but there is one limitation. While speaking with Road & Track, Supra’s Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada said that they haven’t actually performed flying lap at this venue. He further added that the clocked time isn’t the official time, but is able to hit 155mpg at Nurburgring where roads are long. He even speculated that they might someday cut speed limited and try to attack time.
Tada claimed that Toyota Supra is lighter and stiffer than it sibling BMW Z4. Both of them are powered by 3.0 liter straight-six engine which is mated with eight-speed automatic transmission. However, BMW is most powerful among the two as Z4 offers 382hp and 369lb-ft of torque. Toyota Supra offers 335hp and 365lb-ft of torque. Official lap time for the BMW Z4 has not been revealed. Nonetheless, German magazine Sport Auto claims that pre-production model i.e. Z4 M40i lapped at the legendary track in 7:55. It gives us a preview of the true power of the BMW Z4.
If Toyota manages to shave off five or ten seconds from the de-restricted Supra it would garner attention and praise from all around the globe. Supra is able to accelerate from 0-60moh in 4.1 seconds and will have rear-wheel drive design, low center of gravity along with a 50:50 weight distribution. Adaptive Variable Suspension will be available as standard with two modes which are Normal and Sport.
