Toyota have confirmed that at 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, they will introduce all-new GR Yaris hot hatch. This event is scheduled between 10 to 12th of January. Interestingly, Toyota GR Yaris is the second GR branded model to be globally launched by Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR). This sporty version of the latest-gen Yaris follows last year’s GR Supra. Toyota claimed that this new Yaris will incorporate all the technologies, knowledge, and experience from the WRC. Earlier, it was confirmed that Toyota GR Yaris is going to be all-wheel drive system and that’s why GR-4 decals were found on the prototype.
When compared with outgoing front-wheel drive Yaris GRMN, this Yaris is going to take performance to a new level. It is almost certain that gasoline engine will be used, but we are unsure if Toyota is going to use GRMS’s supercharged 1.8-liter unit or switch to a turbocharged unit which is more attuned with WRC car. Even though world premiere of the GR Yaris will be held in the month of January, but it will make its first official appearance is scheduled for 15th of December at the 2019 Japan Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival.
At this event, Toyota GR Yaris will be camouflaged in the signature red-black and white TGR colors. We have already seen them in the prototype. GR Yaris Prototype was recently signed off by company’s president Akio Toyoda under his TGR Master Driver code name Morizo. He performed the final test of the car and had a lot of fun driving it around and testing. Check out the attached video to see how much fun he had on the GR Yaris prototype.
