Over past years, we are hearing lot about Rolls-Royce working on a new crossover. The name of the project was Cullinan. Few months back, there were certain reports that stated that finished vehicle would bear another name. Now the luxury carmaker has confirmed that the upcoming SUV would indeed be branded as Cullinan. The name comes from largest discovered diamond which was unearthed in South Africa. Incidentally, this event took place in 1905 just a year before the birth of Rolls-Royce. According to their CEO, Rolls-Royce Cullinan has been hiding in plain sight after the project name was revealed.
Rolls-Royce Cullinan wasn’t called as sports utility vehicle or crossover during development. It was projected as high-sided vehicle to hide its true identity. Nonetheless, it is expected that it will come with all-wheel drive system and tall wagon bodystyle. It will be done to compete against the likes of Bentley Bentayga that sits top of the food chain of hottest selling luxury crossover. Post the launch of Phantom, Rolls-Royce Cullinan will also be riding on the new aluminium spaceframe architecture. Ghost, Wraith and Dawn is also expected to ride on this new architecture.
To accompany the announcement of the name of vehicle, few photos of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan has been released as well. It shows the prototype being tested, but is covered in camouflaged.
