We got to hear about the Renault Zoe RS in the month of April. But now we have some additional official information about future model. Patrice Ratti who is head of Renault Sport confirmed to Autocar that the all-electric supermini prototype has already been built. If one remembers, Zoe e-sport concept was unveiled at Geneva Motor Show with 460 horsepower. Ratti said in a statement that they were considering doing Zoe RS but it will take time as it is a big study.
The performance of the batteries has significantly been improved now which wasn’t the case few years back. Now they have begun their studies all over again. Ratti also said that the main challenge for the Renault Zoe RS is to match the handling of the past Renault’s sports model. Earlier, it was reported that a powerful Zoe might significantly affect the driving range. Patrice Ratti had previously that if Zoe is driven on a flat out circuit, it will only last for 13 to 14 minutes only. Even with this drawback, Renault didn’t shelve their plan for powerful Zoe.
Even with all the mentioned problem, developing the car would be huge challenge for the French automaker. However, making it a viable option among the performance car enthusiasts will be challenging especially selling it. If Renault Zoe RS eventually becomes a reality, they would have price it competitively among the ICE powered options. Renault Clio RS might provide some component to the Zoe RS too. We will have to wait a bit more to know further more.
