Porsche decided to make hybrid sedans a decade ago, we all that they are pulling a prank on us. A decade later, Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is among us. It may not be comparable to Prius, but still it is a Porsche. The design of this hybrid may not look track focused, but it is quite fast. To prove how fast Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid really is, German sports car maker took it to six world class FIA certified racing circuits. This electric supported hybrid vehicle managed to create new lap records.
It may not be an outright lap record; it created benchmark at each of them for “fastest luxury four door hybrid sedan”. Few years ago, this was not such a tightly fought territory, but times have changed. When compared with other categories, it is not a tightly contest segment such as front-drive hot hatches or all-out unbridled supercars. German automakers in recent times are coming up with more powerful hybrid sedans. For instance, there is Mercedes-AMG GT53 four-door coupe which in few years’ time will have to say, especially to its closest rival.
Nonetheless, Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is adjudged as fastest on six tracks. Interestingly, none of these tracks are from Europe, North America, or Far East. These records were created at Bahrain International Circuit, Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, Kyalami in South Africa, Buddh in India, the Dubai Autodrome, and Losail in Qatar. Porsche is known to create record with their hybrid powertrain. 918 Spyder had lap record for street-legal production cars at Nurburgring for over three years. For lap records at six circuits, Lars Kern took the steering wheels.
