It was in the year 2011, when Peugeot 508 was launched as a successor for the 407 family. The French automaker is planning to introduce its replacement and is expected to arrive next year. It is expected to act as a competitor to the Ford Mondeo, Opel Insignia, Volkswagen Arteon and even BMW 3 Series. According to product director of Peugeot Laurent Blanchet, the model will be placed between premium and mainstream player. He confirmed this news at Geneva Motor Show to a British publication.
Laurent Blanchet wants to project this car as a D-segment model and not as premium model for which DS is already present. Customers could expect a fresh design for the Peugeot 508. It will take design cues from Instinct concept and would have swooping roofline. In the interior, you might see few interesting changes too such as i-Cockpit layout (updated version). The same layout can be seen in 3008 and 5008. Peugeot 508 will be using EMP2 platform, which will enable them to use hybrid petrol powertrain.
We might see an electric version of Peugeot 508 thanks to the EMP2 platform. Laurent confirmed that it will be coming soon and the sale is expected to start by early part of 2018. Their sister brand Citroën has stopped D-Segment vehicle, but Peugeot will keep offering it. Citroën is currently working on C5 Aircross crossover and have stopped working on the C5 for European market. It would be launched by latter part of this year. The full details of Peugeot 508 have not been revealed yet and is estimated that it would be done when the launch date nears.
