Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was the result of collaboration with German luxury automaker and McLaren automotive. The term “SLR” means Sport Leicht Rennsport (Sport Light Racing) and pays tribute to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which was its inspiration. It was offered in coupe, roadster, and a limited edition. Collaboration for the SLR started from the year 2000 and by the year 2006, they revealed a more powerful 722 Edition. This edition was available in Coupe and Roadster guise. The production of SLR stopped in the year 2009, but McLaren had some unfinished aspirations with it. In 2011, they launched the limited Mercedes SLR McLaren Edition.
Only 25 units of Mercedes SLR 722S Roadster McLaren Edition models were made globally and six of them were Roadster. However, the most beautiful among them was the Mercedes SLR 722S Roadster McLaren Edition. The Mercedes SLR 722S Roadster McLaren Edition wears custom two-tone McLaren Orange paint scheme and as contrast several gloss black elements. The McLaren Edition features a new bodykit solely to increase the downforce. Other changes include an upgraded suspension system and numerous lightweight elements that help in shedding weight of around 50kg.
Furthermore, The Mercedes SLR 722S Roadster McLaren Edition incorporates upgraded engine management software, heavier intercoolers and a McLaren sport exhaust. Due to the aforementioned changes, this special edition of The SLR 722S McLaren Edition offers an improved performance of 741 horsepower. Earlier, the same supercharged 5.4 liter V8 engine offered 641hp, just like other 722 models. Given that this Mercedes SLR 722S Roadster McLaren Edition is so rare and features so many upgrades, the asking price for it was $1.05 million.
