Ole Kallenius is the man in charge with R&D for Mercedes-Benz. At the Detroit Auto Show while speaking with Car & Driver he announced that pure electric and hybrid models will be a part of the AMG family. He has admitted that the performance EVs can be sold under the newly founded EQ sub brand. Mercedes has revealed some details regarding the future of its performance models. Daimler announced its plans to spend around 10 billion to make next generation electric vehicles. Some of its investment may go into the sporty models. Kallenius was asked that whether EQ and AMG are compatible are not. He declared that he don’t think these two are opposite extremes.
Further, he added that electrification will find its way into AMG. It is not impossible to get an AMG variant of an EQ and a fully electric version. The R&D boss of Mercedes labeled the SLS AMG Electric drive as a symbol of things that’s coming and knows how builder for AMG gets our heads around electrification. The AMG badge will eventually find its way on more electrified models. The first Project One will be just amazing.
It will be a full blown hypercar which is powered by a V6 engine 1.6 liter turbocharged taken from Mercedes Formula One race car. It will also inherit the electrical assistance from it. Already the hybrid Powertrain is confirmed to produce more than 1,000 HP. We already know that the ultra exclusive machine will have an all wheel drive layout. The Project One will be limited up to 200 to 300 units. It is expected to be revealed in the second half of 2017. It will cost around $2.5 million.
