Mercedes-AMG has set a new official lap record with the new GLC 63 S. The record is for fastest SUV at the iconic Nurburgring. Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S was driven by Development engineer Markus Hofbauer and stated that track was in “autumnal track conditions”. The German automaker also added that the range-topping version of GLC version needed just one lap to set this record. Previous record holder was Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio and was now outdone by GLC 63 S. Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S took 7 minutes and 49.369 seconds to complete the course.
Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV took 7 minutes and 51.7 seconds to complete the lap last year. It overtook Porsche Cayenne Turbo that took 7 minutes and 59.74 seconds. Earlier record before Cayenne Turbo was held by Range Rover Sport SVR that completed lap in 8 minutes and 14 minutes. In a typical German fashion, Mercedes didn’t comment on this achievement. Nonetheless, they released the full video of their record breaking achievement for speed enthusiasts for them to feast their eyes on this powerful SUV.
Power in the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S comes from twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 engine which is present in other AMG models. This premium compact SUV offers an output of 503hp (510PS / 375 kW) and 700 Nm of torque. The setup helps the performance sports car is able to accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds.
