Rumors regarding McLaren’s Speedster turned out to be true and they have just released first teaser of this roofless model. The all-new McLaren Ultimate Series model is yet to be named and is to be showcased at Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance. McLaren is taking pre-orders during Monterey Car Week; thus, we expect some wealthy customers to take up allocations quickly. British luxury automaker said that this new two-seat, open cockpit roadster will debut in late 2020. Production will be capped at just 399 units. Moreover, price of the new model is positioned between McLaren Senna (£958,966) and Speedtail (£2.1 million).
Senna is focused being an ultimate road-legal track car whereas Speedtail is all about high-speed aerodynamic efficiency. The new roadster will be looking to offer “purest distillation of road-focused driving pleasure and an unrivalled sense of driver connection with surrounding environment.” Despite teaser shows silhouette, there is a hint of vent in the hood. It also teases with curving lines along the length of the body. With right airflow management, engineers could be able to direct the wind over occupant’s head.
At this point of time, McLaren only confirmed that the new model will use a version of McLaren’s twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The said engine is “a version” of the same unit that is used on Senna. McLaren claims that the new model would be lightest road-going vehicle ever thanks to the usage of lots of carbon fiber and lacking roof. Since, the company doesn’t have an official moniker for a roofless vehicle, so there is no official name apart from Speedster.
