The Garage 59 McLaren driver will be anchored by 4 drivers on the Blancpain GT series. They are Rob Bell, Shane van Gisbergen, Alvaro Parente and Come Ledogar. They will team up the forces with the drivers in the McLaren GT Driver Academy. It is a part of the plan by the customer team Garage 59 to contest the Blancpain Sprint Series and Blancpain Endurance Series. Ledogar, Bell and Van Gisbergen will team up in the enduros. In the Sprint events Bell will share with Parente. The team will take part in 10 date calendar in Europe.
The McLaren academy drivers Andrew Watson, Alex Fontana and Struan Moore will race the second car in the Endurance cup. Andrew Kirkaldy the McLaren GT boss said that the driver lineup has highlighted the intentions that the team has for the season. He also said that with a mixture of excitement and experience young talent in the roster of drivers. It is together with the strategic support and key engineering on the pitwall. This team is placed well to be a true contender in the championship.
The 6 drivers will team up with the British team and will share 2 McLaren 650S GT3 racers. The 5 date series calendar will be in Italy, Monza. It will be on 23-24 April. It also involves the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The team will run a second car in the sprints. Kirkaldy explains Garage 59 as a separate entity to the McLaren GT. It is a continuation of what they did in the last year with VonRyan racing. It was represented in 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series.
