McLaren Sport Series family constitutes of members such as 540C, 570GT, and 570S. A fourth member will be joining the line-up soon in the form of McLaren 570S Spider. It will be an open-top model and set to arrive this year. This news was confirmed by Mike Flewitt who is the company chief. McLaren 570S Spider will be using hard-top just like the obsolete 650S Spider. It will certainly be little bit heavier (by 40 kilograms) than the fixed roof compatriot, but that won’t be affecting its performance.
McLaren 570S Spider will compete against the coupe with regards to acceleration and top speed. It is believed that it will match coupe’s acceleration of sprinting in 3.2 seconds to cover 62 mph. It will also come close to the top speed of 204 mph. The new open-top will be powered with 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The engine gives an astonishing output of 562 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. The same engine is also used in coupe and an important member of McLaren family. Only McLaren 720S is bit different from others. The displacement of the engine is also increased by 200cc.
There is a price gap of about £20,000 between a coupe and convertible. So McLaren 570S Spider might have a price tag of £165,000. To refresh the memory, the coupe version starts from £143,250. Mike Flewitt also confirmed that there is no planning for 540GT on the cards and also no convertible version of 540C. So we need a little bit more to know more about this open-top model, so stay tuned to our website for more.
