After last month’s teaser, Lotus has finally taken the veil off new Evija. Lotus Evija is all set to become world’s “most powerful series production road car” and comes with four electric motors. Targeted combined output of this setup is 1,973hp and 1,700 Nm of torque. Lotus claims that this setup will help Evija to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than three seconds. When it is given enough space on the road, it can easily hit a top speed in excess of 200 mph. Electric motors are powered with a mid-mounted lithium-ion battery pack that helps it to cover 250 miles on a single charge.
With respect to recharge of battery, buyer will be pleased to know that model also features “world’s fastest charging battery.” It accepts an 800 kW charge, even though charging units with that capability isn’t commercially available as of yet. Nonetheless, when they are available, Evija is fully recharged in just nine minutes. As for now, the fastest available charger has a capacity of 350 kW. If one of these chargers is used for Lotus Evija, it can attain 80% charge in 12 minutes and full charge in just 18 minutes. For those who think that electric cars are ideal companion for track, Evija comes with four-radiators that keep battery pack at an optimal temperature. Hence, it can be drive flat out in Track Mode for atleast seven seconds.
Astonishing performance figure in the Lotus Evija is attributed to ultra-lightweight carbon fiber monocoque chassis. This features a one-piece design which is first for Lotus and weighs just 129 kg that tips the scale of the car at just 1,680 kg. Lotus further claims that car has been designed to deliver an “optimum blend of extreme track performance and on-road comfort.” Thus, Lotus Evija is equipped with “motorsport-derived” suspension which features three adaptive spool-valve dampers for each axle. Furthermore, there is 20 and 21-inch magnesium wheels that are wrapped in Pirelli Trofeo R tires. It is complemented by a forged aluminum AP Racing braking system that features carbon ceramic discs all around.
