Few days back, Lotus unveiled all-electric Evija and it has all the attributes to be exceptionally fast on race track, Now the British automaker have disclosed that they are looking to set a lap record at the iconic Nurburgring. Earlier this week, while presenting the Lotus Evija, company revealed that 70 kWh battery pack for the electric hypercar has been designed to deliver 2MW of peak flow for up to seven minutes before switching to more conversational mode. This news was confirmed to Piston Heads by Lotus principal platform engineer Louis Kerr.
He said that they have designed battery in such a manner to ensure that car can complete a lap of Nurburgring at full power. Kerr further added that they are thinking about Nordschleife and can be comfortably quicker than the NIO EP9. The NIO EP9 lapped Nurburgring at a blistering 6:45.9 in the year 2017 and holds the record of fastest all-electric production vehicle at this circuit. Power in the EP9 comes from four electric motors that generates a combined output of 1,342hp. It is loaded with features such as advanced aerodynamic aids that plays a critical role in lapping the circuit in a record time.
Lotus Evija can put NIP EP9 to shame with is astounding performance figure. Evija is also powered with four electric motors but delivers a combined output of 1,973hp and 1,700 Nm of torque. It is even quicker than Rimac C_Two and Pininfarina Battista. Lotus Evija is fitted with suite of integrated wings, tunnels and diffusers that ensures lot of downforce and has the potential to beat the NIO EP9’s record time. Only time will tell, if Lotus claims is turned into a reality.
