We all knew for quite some time that Lamborghini Urus was coming and now it is confirmed by the CEO Stefano Domenicali. He disclosed that Lamborghini Urus will be powered with 4.0 liter twin-turbo engine V8 engine that produces 650 horsepower. We might also see plug-in hybrid variant to follow soon after the standard model and the time frame is set at 2019. Lamborghini has high hopes from the competitive crossover market. According to Automotive News, they are planning to build around 1000 units by 2018 and expand it to 3500 in 2019.
If they achieve that mark, it would meant that the Italian carmaker would have reached the half their annual output target. The other half of sales would constitute of coupes and convertibles. The pre-production of Lamborghini Urus have already begun at Sant’Agata Bolognese factory and we have few test mules on the road. The sale of Lamborghini Urus crossover will commence in United States from 3rd quarter of 2018 with a price tag of $200,000. Even though the output is 650 horsepower, Lamborghini doesn’t want it to be the fastest crossover in the market.
Lamborghini are targeting to sell this crossover as family oriented crossover. Lamborghini Urus isn’t the only crossover in the market; we already have Jeep Grand Cherokee with 707 hp. Porsche is also coming soon with powerful crossover Cayenne. Urus rides on VW’s MLB platform which is also used in Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. Customers are on the waiting list for Aventador and Huracan, so Urus prospective clients needs to wait a bit longer.
