After a leak, Lamborghini has finally unveiled Sián. This is Lamborghini’s first hybrid and most powerful supercar till date. Lamborghini Sián will make its debut at this week’s Frankfurt Moor Show and is based on Aventador platform. However, it combines naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 with new mild-hybrid system. It offers a combined output of 808 hp. The system uses 48-volt, 34hp electric motor that is incorporated into the gearbox. It provides immediate response and better performance. Lamborghini said that this direct connection between electric motor and wheels is the first for a low-voltage hybrid.
Electric motor in Lamborghini Sián supports low-speed manoeuvring that enables the supercar to execute reversing and parking under electric power alone. Another first thing in the Lamborghini Sián is the energy storage unit in place of a lithium-ion battery pack. Lamborghini also make use of supercapacitor that is three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight and three times lighter. The said supercapacitor is mounted in the bulkhead between the cabin and the engine for optimal weight distribution. Lamborghini stated that electric motor and supercapacitor weighs just 34kg and helps in achieving a weight-to-power ratio of 1.0 kg/hp.
The 6.5-liter V12 engine also gets a new intake valves made from titanium and is rated at 774hp. It can hit 0-62mph in under 2.8 seconds and top speed exceeds 217 mph. Regenerative braking system takes advantage supercapacitor’s symmetric behaviour and fully charges it every time the car brakes. Stored energy is instantly available as a power boost for speeds up to 80mph. Only 63 examples of Lamborghini Sián will be made and honors the foundation year of the brand. All units are already spoken for and Lamborghini said that each one will be individually styled as per owner need through the Ad Personam programme.
