Jaguar worked on a successor to the XJ220 in the form of C-X75, but it didn’t saw the light and never went into production. Nonetheless, Jaguar hasn’t given up on idea regarding high-performance sports car. It is reported that British based luxury multinational carmaker is working on radical replacement for the F-Type. Auto Express further added that it will be mid-engine model which could be launched around 2022. It might wear J-Type moniker. At this point, all these are just rumors.
At first glimpse, it seems to us that Jaguar is bringing out another competitor to the Porsche 718. However, the publication added that they have much higher target that includes rivalling the highly formidable McLaren. Few quotes from the reports suggest that high ranking technicians are working on it and are being benchmarked against the likes of Acura NSX. This choice may seem weird to many, but it must be said that it is a natural candidate. The reason behind it is the fact that Jaguar J-Type will use hybrid powertrain and till now specifications has not been finalized.
There is a good probability that this supercar might use V6 engine along with two electric motors. It would be all-wheel drive system and output to be around 550hp. If we compare output with current generation hypercar it might sound so intimidating as they usually offers 1500hp. Still, it would make it more powerful than the entry-level Audi A8 and would be on par with the McLaren 570S. Rumours are also running around about an electric variant and Jaguar is closely watching the reception of Porsche Taycan.
