All-electric Jaguar I-Pace crossover receives range boosting software upgrade. It was made possible using technical knowledge gained from I-Pace eTrophy race series, British luxury automaker managed to unlock up to 20 km of additional real-world on a full charge from 90 kWh lithium-ion battery. Efficiency of the all-electric powertrain, was enhanced thanks to the optimized battery, thermal, and AWD systems management. This complementary software update can be activated at Jaguar dealerships but will also enable Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA) functionality. Customer experience is further enhanced by receiving latest software, more electronic modules will gain remote updates.
This additional driving range is about eight percent of the said Jaguar I-Pace’s 292-mile WLTP rating. However, this software upgrade doesn’t change the official certified range spec. There are further changes derived from Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy race series such as greater efficiency while driving in Eco mode. It is made possible thanks to tweaks done to torque distribution and refinements to thermal management control. Moreover, the updates allow battery to run to a lower state of charge than before. It does without affecting durability, drivability and performance.
Vehicle Engineering Manager of Jaguar I-Pace, Stephen Boulter said that new software update optimizes the powertrain control systems to improve efficiency and allow drivers to travel even further on a single charge without making any hardware changes. He reiterated that it is a prime example of vehicle getting better with age. Lesson learned from eTrophy series is being used by to make changes derived from real-world data analysis. It includes increased energy recovery from car’s brakes at lower driving speeds and precise range calculation algorithm.
