In an interview to Motor Trend, Infiniti Group Vice President of America, Jeff Pope said that he sees an avenue for the Q60 Project Black S in the US market. Infiniti Q60 Project Black S was unveiled to the world in 2017 at Geneva Motor Show. The project combined Renault’s Formula One technology with the car manufacturer’s expertise. Even though it managed to garner lot of attention, but Japanese luxury automaker wasn’t eager to commit about the production of the car. Interestingly, at last year’s Paris Auto Show, an updated version was showcased to the world.
When Jeff Pope was asked about the production probability of Q60 Project Black S, he was open to the idea in US market. He said that there is a space for a specialty vehicle in a small volume which will be a brand recognition type of model. It would not only be great to have a nameplate being one of the 400,500 or much volume. It would act as statement vehicle for Infiniti. Even if Infiniti Q60 Project Black S is given green light for production, it won’t be happening soon.
Motor Trend pointed out that Infiniti Q60 Project Black S is not one of the five new models being readied by the Nissan’s luxury brand to launch in next three years. Infiniti Q60 Project Black S is based on Q60 Red Sport 400 and features two energy harvesting systems that store energy in a 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. The concept supplements electric turbochargers and an electric motor integrated into the rear axle. Overall, it generates an output of 563hp and is able to accelerate from 0-62mph in under 4.0 seconds.
