Infiniti is to launch a performance EV by 2020. In October it was rumored that Infiniti was coming with an idea to build an electric vehicle. There were two earlier concepts that paved the way to its conclusion, the Emerg-e and four door LE. Now they finally have an official date to reveal it. It will use a new platform that the company doesn’t offer currently. It will share battery technology with Nissan. Ronald Krueger is the CEO of the company. He said that they want to have a unique Infiniti driving experience.
The four-door LE shared the platform with Nissan Leaf. Unlike it the proposed Infiniti electric vehicle will be a pure sports car. Most likely the performance will be similar to the Emerg-e concept which was revealed in 2012. It came with rear wheel drive and electric Powertrain that produces 400 HP. It is a mid-shape, highly advanced, electric motor powered sports car concept. The decision to make an electric sports car came as the Chinese market demanded for it.
Infiniti moved its headquarters to Hong Kong in 2012 to expand the market share. The country overtook the US in 2014 as the largest market in the world for plug in electric cars. Last year, Krueger said in an interview that whenever he thinks about EV, they definitely design it for China. They are discussing it internally constantly that what is the right time for Infiniti to have such vehicles. The electric sports car will be the first addition in its lineup with potential for an electric commuter car which will arrive very soon after that.
