Honda has confirmed the production name of their next electric vehicle which as shown as concept in form of Urban EV. It will be named as “e” and the model will be first electric vehicle to ride on a dedicated EV platform. Earlier, it was previewed as near-production e Prototype at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Honda e is going to be five-door hatchback body with a rear-mounted electric motor driving the rear axle. The Japanese automaker is yet to release performance specification of the model, but they promise it will a driving range of more than 124 miles.
The new electric vehicle will be able charge 80 percent in just 30 minutes. Cabin of e will have lounge like atmosphere and features a walk-through flat floor and a massive dual-screen horizontal display along with digital rear-view side mirrors. According to automaker, this electric hatchback has gained interest from more than 22,000 fans across Europe. Production of this electric vehicle will begin later this year and first deliveries will commence from the year 2020. Apart from the naming confirmation, Honda also released piece of important detail.
The next generation Jazz which is also known as Fit in some countries will arrive with their latest hybrid i-MMD powertrain. It has same feature to that of current CR-V Hybrid. Honda plans to electrify every model in their lineup by the year 2025. The first step they are going to undertake is to introduce hybrid technology to their small segment cars. Honda Fit/Jazz will be revealed later this year at Tokyo Auto Show.
