Honda has set another European lap record with the help of Civic Type R. To achieve this marvellous feat, Honda took the help of former Formula 1 driver and world champion Jenson Button. This record was set at Hungaroring racetrack which is situated in Budapest, Hungary. Currently, Jenson Button is NSX Super GT driver. Jenson managed to cover the lap in just 2 minutes and 10.19 seconds. Incidentally, Honda Civic Type R managed to better its own record set by fourth-gen Civic Type R in the year 2016 during the same challenge. Honda included road tires for the standard production car.
The former champion has great memories of Hungaroring as he at this racetrack he won his first Grand Prix with Honda way back in 2006. Button isn’t the only driver who managed to break record with Honda Civic Type R. Japanese automaker took help of other racing legends for other European circuits to create lap records. Tiago Monteiro and Esteban Guerrieri, World Touring Car drivers set a benchmark at Estoril, Portugal and in Magny Cours, France respectively. Japanese Super GT driver Bertrand Baguette set a lap record at Belgian Spa Francorchamps circuit that he completed in 2 minutes 53.42 seconds.
Matt Neal who is British Touring Car Championship driver also used Honda Civic Type R to set a lap record of 2 minutes 31.32 seconds at Silverstone. Honda Civic Type R record lap at Hungarian racetrack was captured from the inside of the cabin. After completing the lap, Jensen Button was pleased to be on the same track of his first F1 win and loved how the car handles during turns. Do check out the video of the lap record.
