The Duramax diesel engine has already been announced by General Motors for the 2017 MY. Both GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado will receive the Duramax diesel engine. However, the powertrain’s official figures are yet to be revealed. An output of 445 hp and 910 pound feet of torque will be available to the buyers. The new General Motors Duramax diesel engine will be more powerful than Ford Super Duty in terms of the horsepower offered. But it would be a bit lesser in terms of the torque being offered. The Duramax diesel engine offers 910 lb ft torque whereas the For Super Duty offers 925 lb ft of torque.
However, the output generated by the General Motors Duramax diesel engine is still an impressive one. The updated engine offers a major increase in output over the previous model. The current model generates only 360 hp and 765 lb ft of torque. However, the upgraded engine is definitely more powerful than the outgoing one. The leaked figures of the upgraded General Motors Duramax diesel engine were revealed on the GM global propulsion product guide.
It was published on the powertrain website of General Motors. It is to be mentioned that all of these upgraded figures are SAE J1349 certified. The new General Motors Duramax engine will be built at GM-Isuzu D-Max factory. It is located in Moraine, Ohio. The engine is going to be available on GMC Sierra Heavy Duty and Chevrolet Silverado variants next year. The engine will be linked to an Allison 1000 transmission. The torque offered by the upgraded engine beats the Ram’s 865 pound feet of torque. It surpasses Nissan’s 555 lb feet of torque as well.
