On the heals of announcing Ferrari F8 Spider, Italian luxury automaker had another huge surprise for us. Ferrari has unveiled an open-top version of 812 Superfast and is going to be regular series model and not a limited run. Murmurs regarding a topless version of 812 was confirmed last week when it was leaked during a presentation at an exclusive event. Ferrari 812 GTS has the same powertrain like the Superfast. Hence, it comes with naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine generating an output of 789hp at 8,50 rpm and 718 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm.
These figures make it world’s most powerful series-production convertible. With regards to performance, it is quite close to fixed-top 812. Ferrari claims that 812 GTS is able to hit 0-62 mph in under 3 seconds, 0-124 mph in 8.3 seconds and top speed exceeds 211 mph. Ferrari 812 GTS is the first front-mounted V12 open-top model in series production in half a century. The last one was the 1969 365 GTS4 which is commonly known as Daytona Spider. After that Ferrari buyers had to be content with limited-series models such as 550 Barchetta in 2000, Superamerica in 2005, SA Aperta in 2010 and F60 America in 2014.
Like any modern Ferrari convertible, 812 GTS features hard top that is operated in 14 seconds with speed up to 28 mph. There is also an electrically operated rear screen that acts as wind buffer and it can be lowered even roof is closed. It would let them enjoy V12 soundtrack and exhaust note. Ferrari 812 GTS has redesigned rear and is highlighted by two buttresses and new tonneau cover and luggage compartment. Moreover, rear diffuser has been reshaped and features an additional flap to compensate for absence of Superfast’s aero bypass above the rear fenders. To keep turbulence and aerodynamic noise in check, Ferrari has included two small L-shaped flaps on the upper corners of windscreen.
