According to Auto Express, Citroen is reportedly working on an all-new flagship sedan that is expected to be launched by the year 2021. Citroen chief executive Linda Jackson during a discussion at Shanghai Auto Show was talking about future models and said that they are perfect position to make such car. Jackson stated that to become a credible global brand they must have range of vehicles that cover small cars, medium cars, large cars and SUV. They have much credibility to that of other manufacturer for large cars.
Citroen will certainly have one such vehicle but won’t opt for a traditional way. She further added that there is a market for such car and it will come out in couple of years. Underneath the bodywork of Citroen will be PSA Group’s EMP architecture which is currently being used on other vehicles such as Vauxhall Grandland X and Peugeot 508. EMP architecture supports plug-in hybrid and ICE powertrains. Nonetheless, the French automaker claims that they are working new version of the architecture that supports all-electric powertrain too.
It needs to be seen if the new flagship would be using new platform or could come as pure electric. However, we know for sure that electric variant of Opel Vivaro van is currently under work for year 2021. Hence, it won’t be too difficult for the French carmaker to come up with such version of the flagship sedan. With respect to the design of sedan, they will take inspiration from Cxprience concept which made its debut in the year 2016. Thus, it could be five-door fastback design.
