BMW Z4 roadster made quite a buzz when it was revealed and it will be offered in two configurations. The top range model is the BMW Z4 M40i is codenamed as G29. It is currently being tested with two configurations B58M1 and B5801. The B58M1 will be 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine which produces 335 horsepower and second one produces 385 horsepower. The difference in power output is dependent on the emission standards. The higher output in BMW Z4 M40i is meant for countries which doesn’t follow EU emission regulations (including US).
This step is quite unusual with respect to BMW standards as they have consistent with their models for different markets with few tweaks especially with respect to diesel engine. The higher specification of engine might be meant for hotter version of BMW that could come with an optional Competition Package. It is not the first time when BMW has tested a production unit with different engine configurations. So it is difficult for us predict how many engine options will be available with BMW Z4 M40i. We also came to know that BMW won’t be offering Z4 M.
We can rule out a powerful option for the M model. For now, we are sure that Z4 will be coming with four and six-cylinder engines. The base model from BMW is Z4 sDrive20i. Under the hood of BMW Z4 sDrive20i, it is powered with 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine which gives an output of 180hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. Z4 sDrive20i will also feature same engine with 248hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
