This step is quite unusual with respect to BMW standards as they have consistent with their models for different markets with few tweaks especially with respect to diesel engine. The higher specification of engine might be meant for hotter version of BMW that could come with an optional Competition Package. It is not the first time when BMW has tested a production unit with different engine configurations. So it is difficult for us predict how many engine options will be available with BMW Z4 M40i. We also came to know that BMW won’t be offering Z4 M.

We can rule out a powerful option for the M model. For now, we are sure that Z4 will be coming with four and six-cylinder engines. The base model from BMW is Z4 sDrive20i. Under the hood of BMW Z4 sDrive20i, it is powered with 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine which gives an output of 180hp and 200 lb-ft of torque.
