If panic stricken buyers are looking for a SUV that is not only armored but also doesn’t look out of extraordinary, then BMW has a perfect alternative for it. Christened as BMW X5 Protection VR6, German automaker claims that it would be useful of buyers based in Africa, South America, and Russia. X5 Protection VR6 meets all the designated requirements of the resistance class VR6. In simpler terms, it means that it is able to withstand shots from powerful weapons such as AK-47 and lateral blast of up to 15 kg of TNT from a distance of four meters.
Additionally, BMW X5 Protection VR6 features an armored-plated floor that offers protection against hand grenade and blast up to 200 grams of C4. High-strength steel can be found on the doors, roof, side frame and front wall. It ensures that exterior of the vehicle remains resistant to gunfire and blasts. Moreover, there is also an aluminum underbody splinter shield, multi-layered safety glass that is approximately 33 mm thick for the windscreen. Doors with internal polycarbonate layer add protection against possible splinters from bullets or bombs. BMW has not disclosed weight of the car, but claimed that it has been designed to be just as fast and agile as regular X5.
Powering the BMW X5 Protection VR6 is 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It delivers 530hp between 5,500 rpm and 6,000 rpm with 750 Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 4,600 rpm. X5 Protection VR6 is able to accelerate 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Other interesting features in the BMW X5 Protection VR6 consist of attack alarm system, intercom, 4-zone automatic climate control and several other options found on regular X5. It consists of BMW Laser Light headlights, active seat ventilation with massage function and a reverse camera with surround view.
