Even as an adult we are still fascinated by night sky just like a little kid. To keep on with this behaviour BMW Individual has developed bespoke M850i. Dubbed as BMW Individual M850i Night Sky, it honors upcoming meteor shower that is expected to hit from 3rd to 4th of January. 2003 EH asteroid will light up the sky and its fragment will enter earth’s atmosphere and eventually burn it up. When it actually happens, smaller rocks will fall on the earth as meteorite. Fragments like those will be incorporated inside the cabin of BMW M850i.
BMW designers are branding M850i Night Sky it as a car that features materials that are literally out of this world. Inside of this special edition of BMW Individual M850i Night Sky features meteoric rock garnished on the center console’s trim plate, the start/stop button, selector lever and the touch controller for the iDrive system. Same materials are also used on door sills finishers. During designing process, BMW Individual relied heavily on the expertise of researchers from Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics. Several interior and exterior elements build to resemble structure from extra-terrestrial objects.
Hand-stitched headliner and on the center console’s trim finishers is present on the inside whereas it is also present on outside and signified on brake discs, around the mirror caps, front splitters for the side air intakes, and center mesh plates. BMW Individual M850i Night Sky also features brake calipers from BMW Motorsport and is 30% lighter thanks to 3D printing. To accentuate luxury, the vehicle also features fine-grain Merino leather trim with its tri-color design, the Opal White / Midnight Blue / Silver color scheme along with Midnight Blue deep-pile carpeting. Exterior color combines two tones for a high-impact effect. Black non-metallic is the base color, and on top off it there is San Marino Blue metallic coat which is painted over to offer graduated effect. For impressive sense of depth, three layers of clear coat with varying pigment particle sizes were applied.
