BMW Italia partnered with Alcantara S.p.A to develop a stunning i8 Roadster and dubbed it as LimeLight Edition. BMW i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition is designed to project sustainability and exclusivity. This one-off model comes with two-tone exterior contrasted by black wheels which are supported by high-performance braking system consisting of yellow calipers. BMW i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition also features power retractable soft top that can be operated at speeds up to 31 mph and can be lowered in 15 seconds. Since, the model is jointly developed with Alcantara, majority of the interior surfaces uses the material to cover it.
Major highlights are two-tone Alcanatara sport seats which features contrasting yellow stitching along with a yellow inner section with laser cut holes that boasts a design inspired by the propeller of the BMW logo. The same pattern can be found on the door panels and Alcantara is used to cover dashboard, center console and steering wheel. Additionally, there is also carbon fiber trim, blue ambient lighting and LimeLight Edition badging. BMW stated that Alcantara is a natural fir for the i8 and its carbon neutral material.
Alcantara S.p.A was the first Italian industrial company to be certified carbon neutral by TÜV SÜD organization. BMW i8 Roadster LimeLight Edition uses plug-in hybrid powertrain that consist of a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, an 11.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor. Engine powers the rear wheels whereas electric motor powers the front wheels. It makes it all-wheel drive and gives a combined output of 369hp. It helps the car to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds before hitting the top speed of 155 mph. On electric power, it can travel up to 33 miles as per NEDC cycle.
