BMW Group made its present felt at the 2018 Paris Auto Show. Harald Krüger, CEO of BMW started with a speech that revealed few interesting things including BMW i4. This model will be company’s fifth fully electric vehicle in their plan of 25 electric vehicles by the year 2025. The other models in the list are updated BMWi3, 2019 MINI Electric, 2020 BMW iX3 and iNEXT Concept which will also arrive by the year 2021. During the speech, he added that over 300,000 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles have already been sold by the company.
This year alone, BMW have managed to sell over 100,000 electrified vehicles. It was showcased at Geneva Motor Show but specs were not disclosed. BMW i4 was previewed as “i Vision Dynamics concept” at Frankfurt Motor Show. The concept had electric powertrain which made it possible to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in four seconds with the top speed in excess of 120mph. It enables the concept to have a driving range of 373 miles on a single charge.
Updated BMW i3 120 Ah also has electric motor with 42.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that develops an output of 167hp and 250Nm of torque. This setup enables the electric vehicle to accelerate from stagnant position to 62mph in 7.3 seconds before hitting the top speed of 93mph (150kmph). Interestingly, this model has a driving range of 223 miles on a single charge. This figure is based on New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). We will have to wait out to know details about the BMW i4. Nonetheless, BMW’s e-mobility roadmap suggested that Gen 5 EVs from the company will be offered with modular battery pack with capacities of 60kWh, 90kWh and 120kWh.
