After unveiling the 8 Series Coupe, BMW is all prepared to unveil two new body styles within this series. First of them is a convertible that will make its world premiere at Los Angeles Auto Show which is scheduled for next month. At this event, BMW will also showcase X7 SUV and Vision iNext Electric SUV concept. Web debut of BMW 8-Series Convertible is set for 1st November. The convertible will follow the footsteps of Coupe but without the roof. The roof is made from retractable cover made from textile material. Evidently, it will be the only option for BMW’s convertible.
BMW representative while talking to Roadshow also confirmed that 8-Series Gran Coupe and M8 will arrive next year. Engineers to check the durability and endurance of the BMW 8-Series Convertible took it to a barren desert in Nevada. They let it bake in 50°C temperature and looked for faults in the electronics. While doing so, they also searched for dust exposure inside the cabin with top up while being raced in the desert. They also evaluated how the drop-top works when it is driven over gravel tracks. They also took BMW 8-Series Convertible at Hoover dam for testing. The reason for this drastic step is to test electronics and safety system when subjected under strong electromagnetic waves from hydro power plant.
BMW 8-Series Convertible rides on the CLAR modular platform just like the coupe. At this point of time, we still don’t know which powertrain will be used in the 8-Series Convertible. However, we know that BMW M850i Coupe will be powered with twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 engine that offers 523hp and 553lb-ft of torque. Stay tuned to our website to catch live action from LA Auto Show that will start from November 26.
