Bentley is planning to offer a hybrid version of all its future models. Wolfgang Duerheimer is the CEO of the British company. He said that the manufacturer thinks plug in hybrids is not only a temporary bridge technology until EVs arrive. But it is also a platform which provides the best characteristics of ICE cars and electric vehicles. At the Automotive New World Congress 2017 in Detroit Duerheimer said that sometimes PHEV is mentioned as the transitional technology. Soon it will be out of its way. The plug technology provides the best of two worlds.
He believes that the Bentley plug in hybrid variants will be a perfect solution for the customers. They can use its cars in city centers where petrol and diesel vehicles will be likely banned in the future. The hybrids can also be used for long trips. It is still impossible for most of the electric vehicles. Duerheimer commented that to cover the long distances, to make from one city to another and travel long distances in the US. He thinks the combustion engine will follow them for a long time.
The Bentley Bentayga will be the first ever Bentley that will get a hybrid Powertrain. Still now its launch date is not confirmed. It is expected to hit the streets in 2018. Then next a hybrid Bentley Continental GT will follow. It will use a V6 internal combustion engine that is supported by the electric motor for power output. Duerheimer told the Automotive News in Detroit, it will match the current V8. The eco-friendly Continental will make its debut after the W12 version arrives later this year and before the V8.
