It seems that Volvo isn’t the only one who partnered with Google for the development of their new generation infotainment system. Audi Q8 Sport Concept will use the Google I/O Conference to showcase their new Android Infotainment system. The Android based infotainment system will be displayed later this week, and will be using the latest Android operating system. With the use of the most popular mobile operating system, Audi Q8 Sport Concept will now come with new functionalities such as Spotify, Google Assistant and Google Play Music.
Apart from the mentioned features, the infotainment system in the Audi Q8 Sport Concept will enable the information to be displayed on Audi virtual cockpit and MMI touchscreen on the dashboard. According to Audi, this marks the first time when completely new services have been integrated into Audi own infotainment system. What is ironic is that Audi will still be using HERE maps. It is because they partially own the company, but that won’t be stopping the customers from using Google Map assistant. The system will also introduce new call center and new message.
The German automaker is excited with the Android system as it will help them to take help of thousands of developers who are familiar with it. Audi is promising the update cycles will be shorter and will offer greater diversity in services. Audi Q8 Sport Concept is powered with hybrid powertrain (3.0 liter V6 TFSI and 48volt electric system) which produces an output of 469 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. It can accelerate to 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds with top speed of 170 mph.
