Audi has claimed that their new all-electric E-Tron will take less time to charge than comparable Tesla. This can be attributed to the fast charging stations which the company installed. The company many details regarding the Audi E-Tron and the major talking point is that it can achieve full charging under 30 minutes. Audi also asserted that the all-electric crossover will have a range of 400km. The German carmaker failed to disclose how much charge the car will retain after 30 minutes of charging. Audi also withhold the output of the E-Tron.
Nonetheless, Audi E-Tron will use single electric motor on the front and single electric at the rear instead of three-motor powertrain which is used by two E-Tron Quattro Concepts. Hence, the output will be less than 496 horsepower which is available on the concept. To feed energy for the two electric motors, 95 kWh lithium-ion battery is made available. It is present between the front and rear axle. The cells will be supplied by either LG Chem or Samsung. The entire battery pack will weigh about 700kg. One of the most interesting aspects of the battery system is its cooling system.
The cooling system is water based and bonded to the underside of the module. It helps in maximizing heat transfer with heat shed via front mounted radiator. There is also second heat pump with a plate heat exchanger which heat and cools the battery to maintain its optimum range between 25 and 35 degree Celsius. Audi E-Tron as production ready version will be shown to the world later this year.
