In a world, where everyone is moving towards electric powertrain including Aston Martin, many fans are still in love with internal combustion engine. After months of speculations and rumors, Aston Martin has finally revealed its highly anticipated naturally aspirated 6.5 liter V12 engine for Valkyrie. It produces 1,000hp and has been developed jointly with Cosworth. The V12 engine is dubbed as “ultimate expression of the internal combustion engine.” This claim is backed by engine revs that up to 11,100 rpm and develops 153.8hp per liter. Nonetheless, the engine offer light torque and stands at 740Nm.
These specifications don’t tell the whole story as Aston Martin Valkyrie if boosted by battery hybrid system. However, British luxury sports car is keeping details under the wrap and earlier reports suggest that combined output will be 1,130hp. Talking about the V12 engine, Aston Martin says that engine features titanium conrods, a billet machined crankshaft and F1-spec pistons. The engine has been designed in such a manner to offer extremely high tolerance and all components have been optimized for minimum mass and maximum strength. Because of these factors, engine weighs only 204kg. Despite such high performance, Aston Martin says that V12 engine will be able to achieve its emission and compliance and durability.
The engine is linked bespoke single-clutch gearbox engineered by Ricardo and designed by Adrian Newey who is Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer. Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer said that engine is extraordinary and he is confident no one can surpass it. Only 150 cars are planned for production and have been pre-sold for $3.2 million. Deliveries will commence from next year.
