Interest in classic cars is growing exponentially and values are at an all-time high. Aston Martin has come up with a bold new plan to elongate life span of these classic cars by creation of world’s first reversible EV powertrain. This was conceived as an integral process of EV strategy. Heritage Electrification process is led by Aston Martin Works at Newport Pagnell. It incorporates cassette EV powertrain which will take of any future restrictions might be imposed on classic cars by offering zero emissions conversion. Aston Martin Heritage EV Concept incorporates state-of-the-art thinking and technology. Knowledge gained during final development phase of Rapid E and future Lagondas is used.
Production version of radical EV cassette will use key components form Rapid E programme. The first car to receive new EV powertrain is 1970 DB6 MKII Volante which was crafted at Pagnell. It will sits on original engine and gearbox mountings. The cassette is enclosed within its self-contained cell. Power units feed the vehicle’s electric system via umbilical cords. Screen is discreetly fitted inside the car and power can be operated from there. Aston Martin shouldn’t forget the historical significance of these historical cars, EV conversion must try to maintain the integrity of original car.
The cassette system offers an ingenious method to maintain the essence original car while making it future proof and socially responsible. Aston Martin President, Andy Palmer said that they are aware of environmental and social measures for classic cars usage. Their Second Century plan will encompass new and future models but also protects treasured models. Aston Martin Works had already worked on the concept DB6 Volante, they will be responsible for completion of Heritage EV conversions. Aston Martin Heritage EV Concept will offer bold and progressive solution to their future problems and its glorious past sustainable, bright and exciting.
