The Alfa Romeo Stelvio non Quadrifoglio made an appearance on TV on Italy’s TG5 channel. This video was filmed at the Cassino factory during the visit of Matteo Renzi, Italy’s Prime Minister. He was joined by Sergio Marchionne, and Alfredo Altavilla flanking the black Stelvio. They are the FCA CEO and Alfa’s Chief operating officer. It is most likely the pre-production prototype. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is not as aggressive as the Q. Its lesser trim managed to give a sporty look. Few can find it very refreshing in the SUV segment dominated by the Germans.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio exterior design is quite predictable. It has taken the inspiration from the Giulia sedan. It will largely inherit its interior cabin from there with most of the hardware. It is same with the engines. So far only one has been announced. It has 2.0 liter turbocharged gasoline unit producing 295 pound feet and 280 HP of torque. It is connected to an automatic eight speed transmission. The gearbox and engine combo in the Giulia will be available on the Veloce version. It features an all-wheel drive arrangement as standard.
The Giulia Veloce can have turbodisel 2.2 liter rated at 347 lb feet and 210 HP. It would make some sense also for the Stelvio Veloce to get the diesel. It will ride on new billion dollar FCA’s Giorgio platform. The first SUV of Alfa Romeo will be available with lesser turbodisel 2.2 liter. It will offer 180 HP and 150 HP flavors like the Giulia. The full details of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio will arrive in the coming weeks, ahead of SUV’s launch in 2017.
