It is not a secret that work is going on Alfa Romeo 8C. However, news report suggests that it would be a hybrid powertrain. The performance of hybrid supercar will be rivalling the best from Ferraris. We already knew that Alfa Romeo 8C would be returning and it was confirmed by their late CEO Sergio Marchionne. He disclosed about it in June when he was discussing about FCA future product strategy but didn’t disclose any specifics. Latest Alfa Romeo 8C would be different from previous generation as it will feature a mid-engine layout rather than heavy engine over the front wheels.
It is also reported that Alfa Romeo 8C will be underpinned by carbon fiber monocoque and also use the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio engine which is twin-turbo 2.9 liter V6 engine. Currently, it offers 500 horsepower but it is speculated that the same engine will churn out around 600 horsepower when fitted in 8C. Mid-engine Alfa Romeo with 600 horsepower would be astounding, but the Italian automaker might attempt to take it even further. To achieve this internal combustion engine will work with an electric motor that will add additional 200 horsepower, which will make overall output at 800hp.
Ferrari 488 Pista is also mid-engine that is rated at 710hp. So, if Alfa Romeo does manage to achieve it, it would better the Ferrari. Acceleration would be tad faster and is expected to reach 62mph from stagnant position in under 3 seconds. Alfa Romeo 8C is expected to come with advanced torque vectoring system that will help it to navigate corners with ease. At this point of time, we don’t know anything about the production, but it might be around 100 units or less.
