Acura is all set to return to the prototype racing with their new baby ARX-05. However, before all that it the racing prototype will make its debut at The Quail on 18th August. Following this it will make appearance at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Next year, Acura ARX-05 will be hitting the track under Team Penske. The competition debut of this racing car is set in January at Rolex 24 at Daytona. Team Penske will also be campaigning two additional cars for the Japanese manufacturer at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Acura ARX-05 follows the long list of endurance prototypes fielded by them over last 25 years. Acura ARX means Acura Racing eXperimental. The styling of this racing prototype was done at Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles. The project was under the supervision of Acura’s global creative director, Dave Marek. The new teaser video of the Acura ARX-05 is kept under camouflage, but its shows its odd front design. It is anticipated that it will be powered with 3.5 liter biturbo engine which also powers NSX GT3. The chassis in the car is provided by Oreca.
Acura ARX-05 is under the multi-year program which is administered by Honda Performance Development. This is the racing arm for Acura Motorsports and Honda Racing. The driver lineup has not been discloses as of yet, but don’t be shocked to see Indianapolis 500 winner, Juan Pablo Montoya to be at helm along with Helio Castroneves. Previously, Acura ARX prototypes competed in the LMP1 and LMP2 American Le Mans Series which is now the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
