Porsche has finally introduced 718 Cayman GT4 and it marks return of the naturally aspirated flat-six in their mid-engined sports car. 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 looks like an instant collectible and brings back host of changes when compared with its predecessor. It includes brand new engine and more downforce. Suspension revision of the 2020 718 Cayman GT4 are modest with majority of them are located at the rear. Porsche has fitted a new subframe, dampers, control arms and ball joints to ensure that 718 Cayman GT4 has every precise tool.
When we heard about the 4.0-liter flat-six unit in 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, most of us thought a detuned version of the engine unit of 911 GT3 and GT3 RS. However, Porsche opted for a new built and built a new engine from the scratch. Porsche’s engineer took the twin-turbo 3.0-liter in 911 and removed the turbos and stretched it to 4.0-liters and added a few motorsport-inspired stuffed along with a cylinder shut-off system. All these upgrades give an output of 414hp and 420 Nm of torque. To further accentuate the nature, Porsche is still offering a six-speed manual transmission as only choice.
Despite being more powerful, 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 takes 0-62mph 4.4 seconds, same as the previous model. Nonetheless, top speed is increased by 8 mph and now stands at 188 mph with the help of more efficient aero kit. Another aspect that stands out in the 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is its weight. The new GT4 is now 80kg heavier than the older GT4. It is attributed to inclusion of mandatory particulate filter and other components with weight tipped at 1,420kg. Interestingly, 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is 10 seconds faster than its predecessor on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
