Hyundai unveiled Sonata Hybrid at this year’s Seoul Motor Show with limited facts. Now, the whole world will get to know about the electric version off 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Hyundai’s new Active Shift Control (ASC) technology for hybrid vehicles. 2020 Sonata Hybrid is the first vehicle to feature this innovative tech. The new model is based on latest Sonata and the hybrid model features distinguished design feature and is evident from the cascading grille and rear spoiler integrated harmoniously with taillights. Moreover, aero-style heels are also unique for the Sonata Hybrid and claims to offer fine-tuned aerodynamics.

One of the most talked about feature in the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is its solar roof. This system recharges the battery to increase travel distance and also prevents unnecessary battery discharge. According to Hyundai, daily charging for 6 hours will give 2020 Sonata Hybrid an additional driving range of 808 miles each year. Another tech highlight is Active Shift Control technology that shelves gear shift time by 30 percent. This is achieved by applying new control logic software to the Hybrid Control Unit (HCU) which then control electric motor to align rotational speeds of engine and transmission. Benefits of this system as cited by Hyundai is improved acceleration performance, fuel economy and durability of the transmission of ASC minimizing friction during gear shift.

Powering the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is Smartstream G2.0 GDi HEV engine. It is mated with six-speed hybrid transmission that develops an output of 150hp and 188 Nm of torque for its gasoline unit. The electric motor adds an additional 51hp and 205 Nm of torque. Combined output stands at 192hp and South Korean automaker claims that combined fuel economy is 20.1 km/l as per their home market when equipped with 16-inch wheels. Fuel economy decreases to 19.1 km/l when equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels. Driving assistance systems for 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid features Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian/cyclist detection and autonomous braking and Lane Follow Assist which automatically adjusts steering to keep the vehicle centered in its lane of travel. Lastly, ether is Digital Key function through a dedicated Smartphone app that allows customers to unlock and lock, activate alarm and start engine remotely.
