Ecoboost powered Ford Mustang is now working on more powerful version of the engine. It will be done to bridge the difference between base four-cylinder models and the V8 GT. It surfaced on Hagerty who managed to get hold of a NHTSA VIN filing document that shows models for the 2020 model year. It includes two engine codes for the turbocharged 2.3 liter Ecoboost in the Ford Mustang. Ford spokesperson refused to make any official statement regarding the news. The only statement he gave that the company elevating Mustang and will share more exciting news this spring.
Ford has already stopped selling V6 option from the Mustang since 2018 model year. Now, customers have to choose between the four-cylinder and V8 version. Thus, it creates a noticeable gap in Mustang lineup. The report suggest that a new engine variant might be for new mid-level Mustang which will take on the Chevrolet Camaro that offers an output of 335 horsepower from V6 variant. Ford is already churning out 350 horsepower with the help of 2.3 liter EcoBoost and can be seen from Focus RS. Hence, it won’t be difficult for them to come up with similar powered Ford Mustang.
We must point out that Mustang V8 GT commands a premium of $9000 over the four-cylinder Mustang. There is enough room for Ford to position new version between the two. Mustang plans for 2020 MY which is just few months away. We will get to know if there is any truth in this report.
