Audi has revealed their first full electric vehicle, E-Tron SUV. It is capable of recharging 80% with 30 minutes with the help of 150kW charger which is currently being rolled out in Europe. These 150kW chargers are part of IONITY that will enable facilitation of long distance travel for electric vehicles, jointly owned by Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford and others. However, they can be upgraded and capable of 350kW charging provided that battery technology is developed to utilize it. 2020 Audi E-Tron GT is one such model which can support the 350kW chargers. It is Audi’s third all-electric vehicle.
2020 Audi E-Tron GT will take 12 minutes to achieve 80 percent charging. As the name suggests, the model will arrive in the year 2020. It was also confirmed by E-Tron marketing manager, Johannes Eckstein. He did say to Autocar that battery technology is not yet advanced to accommodate electric flow rate for 350kW chargers. However, battery of 2020 Audi E-Tron GT will accommodate it. To ensure that customers of Audi E-Tron GT along with future electric vehicles will be able to use 350kW charging station as soon as possible, they already have started to build fast charging stations across world.
In Europe, this plan is already coming to fruition with the help of IONITY network. For United States market, Volkswagen Group’s Electrify America subsidiary is rolling it out. Apart from fast charging feature of 2020 Audi E-Tron GT, this electric vehicle will be a luxury sedan. It will be rivaling against Tesla Model S and also as an alternative to Porsche Cayman. The production of Audi E-Tron GT will begin by 2020 at Böllinger Höfe site near Neckarsulm. Audi is set to introduce 10 additional models by the year 2025.
