Mercedes-Benz has managed to retain the record for lowest drag for any production vehicle. It managed to achieve this feat with the help of 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan and took the title from outgoing CLA. The Cd value of 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan is 0.22 and has drag less than 0.49 square meters. 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan is slipperiest production vehicle and customer will get their hands on it after launch that is scheduled for the end of 2018. For those who don’t know, German car maker has already announced “L version” of A-Class sedan. This particular model is only meant for China and has longer wheelbase by 60mm.
For Europe and North American markets, models will have share same wheelbase with that of hatchback variant (2,729 mm). Mercedes managed to improve on the old record by working extensively on optimization of A-Class sedan and every small detail was covered. To able to get closer to the optimization, computer aided engineer along with measurements from wind tunnel was taken into account. We must add that 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan also benefits from the significant reduction of frontal area that is now 2.19 square meters.
The figure is quite astonishing considering that interior dimensions have been increased and also panelling of the underbody that includes the engine bay, main floorpan, parts of the rear axle and the diffuser. 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan will enter into production soon in Mexico at Aguascalientes factory and also at Germany’s Rastatt. Mercedes claims that 2019 C-Class will have best-in-class rear headroom when it hit the market. Interior of the C-Class sedan will stand out among the rivals as it offered with new MBUX infotainment system.
