Ford and M-Sport has introduced their first rally car based on FIA’s latest R2 regulations. It is dubbed as 2019 Ford Fiesta R2 and is based on road-going version of Ford Fiesta ST-Line. It is the first vehicle that has been fully designed and developed at M-Sport’s facility at Krakow in Poland. 2019 Fiesta R2 will come with several changes that have been tweaked to make it faster and durable for the competitive rallying race. There aren’t many commonalities with its predecessor as M-Sport took inspiration from current Fiesta WRC.
Major changes in the 2019 Ford Fiesta R2 were made to the engine, transmission and suspension. Under the hood of 2019 Ford Fiesta R2 there is 1.0 liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine. The engine offers 197hp at 6,500 rpm. The same output is churned out in Fiesta ST from 1.5 liter unit. Peak torque is 290Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine works in conjugation with Sadev five-speed sequential gearbox that is adjustable across three different ramps with available plated limited-slip differential.
The 2019 Ford Fiesta R2 also uses new suspension that consists of adjustable Reiger dampers which is three-way at the front and two-way at the rear. It also includes Eibach springs that are available with hard or soft setting. An optional anti-roll bar is on offer that would help driver to find the right setup. To control the high speed of 2019 Fiesta R2, Alcon competition calipers are included along with ventilated AP Racing front discs and Alcon solid rear discs. M-Sport is taking order for the 2019 Ford Fiesta R2. It will form the basis for next year’s FIA Junior WRC Championship.
