The world is moving towards electrification and it should be surprising that drag racing is also getting electrified treatment. Dubbed as 2019 Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro and is based on COPO Camaro. 2019 Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro offers an impressive 700 horsepower and 814Nm of torque from electric motors. Chevrolet took the COPO Camaro and designed to perfection for drag racing. In place of V8 engine, electric motor assembly was placed and huge battery pack in the trunk. The system is based on a pair of BorgWarner HVH 250-150 motors. Each of them generates 407Nm of torque and is connected with a conventional Turbo 400 automatic transmission.

At the rear, four 200-volt battery modules have been installed and each of them weighs 79kg. It gives combined electric power of 800 volts. Roll cage rearwards has been extended to protect the batteries from crash or accidents. Even though 2019 Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro still in development phase, it is expected that it can accelerate to quarter-mile in around nine seconds. With respect to appearance of 2019 Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro, it features orange engine block, black high-rise intake manifold, and chrome valve covers. Chevrolet will make only 69 examples, the same number of units that were made back then.

GM’s director or Performance Variants, Parts and Motorsports, Russ O’Blenes said that possibilities are intriguing and suggest a whole new world for racers. eCOPO concept points towards a future that could include electric crate motors for racing. Currently, they are not there yet, but they are exploring this avenue. The electric motor assembly are designed to be fitted in place of conventional engine.
