When it comes to boxing, the first name synonymous with success and legend is the great Muhammad Ali. With his passing, the world has lost a shining star but his stories will remain alive for years to come. When he was on top of his game, he could get anything he wanted and several times he did. In this post, we will talk about a classic Alfa Romeo he once owned which is now up for auction. It is 1976 Alfa Romeo Spider and Ali brought this at European Imports in Lake Forest, Illinois. He owned this 1976 Alfa Romeo Spider for a short time and gave away to his friend.
Interestingly, his friend is the current owner of it and was present when Muhammad Ali bought it. We can’t disclose who his friend or the current owner is but Alfa Romeo in mentioned in a book by Tim Shanahan titled “Running with the Champ: My Forty-Year Friendship with Muhammad Ali”. A copy of this will be available with this car, so one shouldn’t be surprised if Tim Shanahan is indeed the owner of it. 1976 Alfa Romeo Spider has traveled for 80,000 miles and wears silver with a handsome red coachline. It also has black interior and wears a California vanity plate reading “ALIBEE2”.
1976 Alfa Romeo Spider is powered with 2.0 liter straight four along with five-speed manual transmission. Alfa isn’t the only automaker this legend was interested in. It was reported that he once was a part owner of Brazilian automaker named Puma. This company made little fiberglass-bodied barchettas powered that was powered with boxer engine from Volkswagen Beetle. Coming back to 1976 Alfa Romeo Spider, the auction is set for next month. It is held by Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas. Do check out the attached images of the classic car.
